Monday's Homework: Click on the web link to go to author Ken Nesbitt's poetry site. Click on and then read the different funny poems. Once you have read at least 4 poems, choose the one you liked the most. Write a paragraph explaining which one is your favorite and why. Make sure you remember to write the title with correct capitalization and quotation marks.

I liked "My dog Fred" the best. I have a cat that sounds just like that. I love the name Fred because there is this hilarious guy named Fred. I also love dog. They are my favorite kind of pet. But, if I were the person who owned the dog, I would train it. My dog, Allie, is lazy just like Fred. I loved "My Dog Fred" the best.

Wednesday's Homework: (Please DO NOT do this ahead of time because you will need some instruction in class before completing this.)
Go to the following website to read the poem. Look up in a dictionary any words you do not know. Type a paragraph explaining what you think the author is trying to say in his poem. Then on plain paper, draw and color an illustration that would go with the poem. Turn it in when you get to school. http://www.storyit.com/Classics/JustPoems/shadow.htm

I liked "My Shadow" the best. The poem was long but great. I didn't know what notion and arrant was. But, I looked them up and notion means belief about something. Arrant means nonsense. I think the author is saying when the shadow stayed in bed that the sun was not up. Also when the sun is at the horizon, your shadow is tall. When the sun is above you, your shadow is really, really short. When the poem said that your shadow is a coward, that's because your shadow stays with you.
